Chris Coogan (right), who is the club Table Tennis section secretary, and a very popular and long standing member of SALTC, recently had his 80th birthday, and a party was held at the Argyle to celebrate the occasion.
ARGYLE TABLE TENNIS CLUB REPORT – April 2010 The club entered three teams into the Southport Table Tennis League for the 2009-2010 season, the first team in division 1, the second team in division 2 and the youngsters (coached by Angus Taylor) in division 3. The season has just finished, with the first team midway up division 1. This has been achieved thanks to the efforts from Barry Crook, Matthew Hyde, Mark Jagger and Angus Taylor. The second team, led by non-playing captain Chris Coogan finished a creditable third in division 2, thanks to Derek Mahen, Monica Coogan, Allister Taylor and Chris Parkes. The third team has finished half way up division 3, its highest spot for years, with many juniors contributing, the most notable being Mike McCormick. It is hoped to run a fourth team next year, they will play in division 3. In the town championships Barry Crook won the over 55 competition, and came second in the over 40’s. In the Anon Cup competition the "A" team made it to the final for the second year in succession, losing to the first division champions from Formby. Star of the year award must however go to Chris Parkes. He picked a bat up from behind the bar in September, and within weeks was playing for the third team. His speed around the table has meant he has kept the ball in play, and it was not long before he was snapped up by the second division squad. He has also acquitted himself as a reserve in a few first division matches. Well done!
